‘Tis the season to be grumpy for clients of the Aboitiz-owned UnionBank as they wait for hours for one-time PINs (OTP) for online transactions to be sent to their mobile phones.

Fresh from being exploited by fraudsters who opened UnionBank accounts under the name “Mark Nagoyo,” the bank is now dealing with complaints from depositors who can’t push through with their transactions due to the lag in sending OTPs.

Facebook user named Patrick Antonio needed an OTP as early as 8:40 a.m. and complained through a comment that day. He still didn’t get one as of 2:53 p.m., or a full four hours.

UnionBank’s response was for him to reinstall mobile banking app or transfer to a more stable internet connection.

Another commenter wrote: “I’m using online banking, your OTP is so late that I can’t transfer funds from different acct and I couldn’t get a hold from your cs. How’s that for convenience?!”
