Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III isn’t moved by the whining of Rappler reporter Pia Ranada over his refusal to grant interviews on the Philippine agenda at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland.
Ranada lectured Dominguez on why he needed to face the media, saying reporters should not simply quote press releases provided by the Philippine delegation there.
“Reporters have questions about them that we can’t ask because there’s no avenue for asking,” she said.
Dominguez, however, was unmoved.
“Negotiations here are sensitive and I prefer that all statements made by this delegation be in formal press releases so they cannot be misunderstood, misquoted, or misrepresented,” the Finance chief said. “I am completely satisfied with the coverage.”
Ranada, who has been banned from covering Malacanang and President Rodrigo Duterte, also came across as arrogant in her overseas coverage, with an activist calling her out for kicking him so she can get a better view of the protest unfolding in Glasgow.
Twitter user Rogelio Braga presented receipts, where Pinoy activist Nyel Camilon can be heard in a Facebook live video confronting Ranada for her rude behavior.
Camilon confirmed this. “Hi Pia, As I’ve said, meron akong mga witness. Bakit ko sasabihing sinipa mo ako sa fb live ng ILPS? I am delusional?,” he said. “Kick is a kick. Kicking someone to get better view of a news is gross.”
At 22:38 of this FB live, the UK-based Filipino activist was captured reacting to @rapplerdotcom journalist @piaranada kicking him during #COP26. Literally using her foot to a Filipino activist! Ang bastos. https://t.co/srk8MQWHET

@piaranada sinipa mo ako at meron akong mga witness. At even sila nagulat! Ganyan ka ba magwork? Never mo nga akong nilapitan para makausapin after. Di mo maririnig kasi sira ang megaphone. Thats the reason i was there in front of all the speakers.

Ranada’s defense: “If you call a nudge with a toe a ‘violent kick,’ then a prod with a finger is a punch. That was a gross misrepresentation of what happened.”
Hi Nyel. If you call a nudge with a toe a “violent kick,” then a prod with a finger is a punch. That was a gross misrepresentation of what happened.
