Public Works Secretary Mark A. Villar said the widening project woull increase Lawton Avenue’s capacity to accommodate additional volume of vehicles and facilitate faster mobilization of goods and services.

Villar said thatĺl the entire 3.1 kilometer road widening project will be substantially completed towards end of this year.

The widening project will convert the existing 4-lane roadway (two) lanes both direction) into 6-lane highway (thre lanes both direction) with a width of 14 meters and a thickness of 340 millimeters portland concrete cement road (PCCP).

The Lawton Avenue widening follows a part of the alignment of the old Nichols route running roughly southwest to northeast from the interchange of SLEX/Skyway to Fifth Avenue and Manila American Cemetery Memorial.

With the widening of Lawton Avenue, the adjacent thoroughfares like EDSA, South Superhighway and C5 will be decongested and travel time going in and out of BGC will be lessened.

It will also complement the BGC-Ortigas Center link road project which will improve access to and from the cities of Taguig, Pasig, Makati and Mandaluyong.
