IKEA Philippines saw the opportunity to promote itself ahead of its grand November 25 store opening when the giant globe at the SM Mall of Asia supposedly disappeared Saturday night (November 13).

The Swedish furniture maker denied that its mascot, Tito Ball, was involved in the incident, as some speculated that the globe was going to be converted into a giant meatball.

“We have been receiving allegations and accusations about the MOA Globe incident. Tito Ball was last seen in the vicinity of the MOA Globe last November 11, 2021,” Ikea said. “He is innocent until proven guilty. We ask for the public to wait for the results of the investigation before asking him to #BringMOAGlobeBack.”

It turns out that Netflix was behind the globe’s supposed disappearance.

Videos of the staged heist — complete with fake footages of a chopper taking the globe — was spread online to promote the streaming giant’s new film, Red Notice.

The movie, which premiered online on November 12, stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot in a grand heist.
