Davao-based businessman Samuel Uy should get some of the credit if reluctant candidate, Davao City Mayor Sara Durete, decides to run as a tandem with presidential wannabe Bongbong Marcos in the 2022 presidential elections.

The bilyonaryo turned political matchmaker has been actively moving behind the scenes to encourage the presidential daughter to agree to be the running mate of Marcos.

Uy was recently seen in a photo released by the Marcos camp raising the hands of both Bongbong and Sara which further raised expectations of a formidable partnership between the two scions of powerful political families from the North and South of the Philippines.

Although Duterte filed for reelection, she has until November 15 to change her mind and seek a national post.

Uy is a director of bilyonaryo Lucio Tan’s Philippine Airlines and Macroasia. Uy was instrumental in helping Tan resolve his beef with President Rodrigo Duterte who threatened to shut down PAL‘s access to Ninoy Aquino International Airport if Tan does not settle his airline’s unpaid navigational fees and other charges worth P7 billion.

Uy is a long-time friend of the President whose younger brother, Benjamin, was his high school classmate. He donated P30 million to the President’s campaign in 2016.

Uy owns Davao Farm, the largest egg supplier in southern Mindanao; the Hond and Ford dealerships in Davao; the Toril Sports complex; appliance retailer Dimdi; and Ricardo Limso Medical Center.
