
Basic Energy chairman Oscar de Venecia passed away on 20 October 2021.
He was 89.
De Venecia started as executive vice president of the then Basic Petroleum and Minerals in 1972 in the midst of the oil exploration boom in Palawan.
The Mapua civil engineering graduate became President and CEO in 1980 and served in these posts until 2007.
His son, Carey, took over Basic in 2011 after serving four years as its chief operating officer.
He is an active voice in the business community as vice chairman for intranational trade of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
