
Japanese electronics firm Seiko Epson Corp. saw sales rebound in the Philippines following a sharp contraction last year amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In a virtual briefing, Seiko Epson president Yasunori Ogawa said sales numbers have recovered significantly in the Philippines and other markets in Southeast Asia, especially for its EcoTank printer products.
“Its almost approaching normal levels again now,” he said.
Ogawa said its manufacturing plant in Batangas is operating normally despite the pandemic.
Siew Jin Kiat, Epson Regional managing director, said Epson Precision Philippines Inc. (EPPI) is the biggest Epson factory worldwide with over 18,000 staff.
“This represents the magnitude of Epson’s investment in the Philippines, as well as our continued confidence in the nation as a key global manufacturing hub. It has also already been converted to 100 percent renewable electricity as of January 2021, as one of the core functions of this production site is to incorporate sustainable practices from the manufacturing get-go,” Jin Kiat said.
Jin Kiat said the Philippines remains a key market in Southeast Asia.
“We hope to leverage Epson Philippines’ market leadership to enact positive influence on businesses and the overall community through our products and solutions, which address customer and societal needs, as well as via our extensive partner network, to encourage the promotion of green and sustainable technologies,” he said.
Epson is a global technology leader, which manufactures inkjet printers, digital printing systems , 3LCD projectors, smart glasses, sensing systems and industrial robots.
