Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, who is being urged by President Rodrigo Duterte to run for senator in 2022, has found a new but strong supporter.

On the sidelines of the signing ceremony of the supplemental toll operation agreement for the P95 billion Pasig River Expressway (PAREX), San Miguel Corp. president Ramon S. Ang said Tugade has an impressive work background that would be conducive to being a good lawmaker.

Ang said Tugade’s accomplishments in the past five years make the Transportation Secretary a good choice for the Senate in next year’s elections.

SMC has long been a partner of the DOTr in delivery large-scale transport infrastructure projects, which include the massive New Manila International Airport in Bulacan, MRT-7 and the implementation of electronic toll collection.

When asked if he would vie for a Senate seat,Tugade said his main priority now is to complete various transport projects of the DOTr.

“Let’s just cross the bridge when we get there. But in the meantime, my priority is putting in place the projects which we could finish, can finish, and should finish within this very limited time,” Tugade said.
