The ad agency behind the viral “Pandemic Effect” commercial of the Belo Medical Group has apologized for the offensive content after drawing flak online.

Gigil shared responsibility for the ad, which showed a woman getting fat and having body hair and pimples as she gets stressed watching news about the pandemic.

“Yesterday, the Belo Medical Group posted a film that we created which caused distress to a considerable number of people. We were insensitive,” the ad agency said. “We are sorry to the people whom we hurt.”
“We will learn from this, and we will do better,” it added.

Gigil, which claims to be the “most effective” independent ad agency in Asia, also conceptualized the weird RC Cola ad of a headless parent which won the Bronze Lion in the prestigious Cannes Lions 2021.
